“Looks like we meet again, Super Cop.”
“Yes, indeed we do.” Lei said, being polite. He was finally face-to-face with his father’s true killer. Lei felt his blood boil and never knew that this day would come. He also saw in Heihachi, the man who tried to kill his entire family, and tried to take over the world and weaponize the Devil Gene. Heihachi was also the man who made Elise’s life miserable after her departure from the Zaibatsu by keeping Katya hostage. This was it.
“You say you want to reveal the Mishima’s secrets to the world… just as your father had threatened to do, many years before.”
“So, you knew my father!”
“Of course… and apparently, you have a wealth of information to make your case.”
“Indeed… my father’s journal tells me that in the year, 1976 you killed Jinpachi, then you killed Kazumi, and then you threw your son off a cliff. He never did find out why, but he knew you were plotting world domination. And he knew it was all because of the Devil Gene.”
Heihachi laughed a little at Lei’s statement. “So, your father was right. He warned me that this day would come.”
“What?”
“I’ll tell you everything, Wulong. I want you to promise me that you’ll tell the whole world about what I’m going to tell you.”
Lei was confused. This secret that his dad discovered, now Heihachi wants to entrust Lei with that information. He wasn’t sure why Heihachi wanted this and what his end-game is. But it didn’t matter. Not to mention, why tell him of all the people in the world?
“I’ll tell everyone.” Lei finally said, bowing out of respect for the elder. Again, just because this man killed his father when he was about to expose the truth to the world, didn’t mean Lei couldn’t be polite and respectful. After all, there is a Chinese proverb – “Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.”
“Good. So, everything started with Kazumi Hachijo. She first came to my father, Jinpachi’s dojo, when she was but a small child. Alongside me, she devoted her days to training. In essence, she was my rival. The world of martial arts is a lonely one, challenging your mind, body, and soul.”
Lei nodded. “Yes…”
“In time, Kazumi and I became inseparable. When Kazuya was born, we were overjoyed. Kazumi was especially enamored with the boy and always doted on the boy. As you pointed out, everything went to hell that one year. During training, Kazumi collapsed. Kazumi was burning up like she was on fire. I rushed her to a bed…”
“Let me guess, she tried to kill you?” So far, the story lines up with what Doppo had told him. Lei then thought about Katya and dreaded the day her Devil side would take over and try and kill him and Elise.
“Yes, the next day, though, her fever subsided. But she remembered nothing and went on as normal. It was like she had a split personality: one human side, one side something else. It went on like that for awhile until one day… she confronted me while I was training. She mentioned that I would one day be a threat to the world, and that she must kill me. She admitted that the only reason why she married me was so that she could kill me..”
“Damn…” Lei actually felt sorry for the older man. Again, the story checks out and it still didn’t justify his actions, but Lei pities the elder Mishima. He could only imagine marrying your wife, and have her admit that she only did this so she could get close to you, and kill you. That’s cold.
“She mentioned that she was part of the Hachijo clan, and that it was their duty to kill those who would pose a threat to the world. I was confused and didn’t understand why she said that. However, I eventually saw her show her true colors as the Devil itself. The fight was grueling and hard, as the Kazumi I once knew and loved no longer existed. The Devil had taken over her, completely. As I held The Devil by the throat, she had begged and pleaded for her life telling me that I would cause an everlasting chain of hatred. I didn’t listen to her, and of course I killed her.”
“And you of course threw Kazuya off the cliff… why do that, instead of outright killing him?” Lei did think it was a bit of a convoluted way of killing a small child.
“Yes. Because if Kazumi’s blood flowed in his veins, he wasn’t human. If the fall didn’t kill him, I was proven correct. As expected, he survived. Looking back on it now, I should have just killed him right then and there…”
“And what about Jinpachi? Why did you kill your own father?”
“He and I had a disagreement. He didn’t agree with the militaristic agenda that our company was moving towards. So, naturally, the two of us had a duel, and I defeated him in combat and locked him in the basement of Hon-Maru. Your father talked about the unpleasant aura that it gave off.”
“I know. And tell me more about my father… you said he warned you that this day would come…”
Sometime in 1976...
It was a stormy night. Thunder and lightning echoed in the background as the rain hammered down on the ceiling. As Heihachi meditated in his dojo, he was quickly approached by his new opponent.
“Heihachi Mishima… I know your end-game!” A Chinese man in his 30’s with his long brunette hair braided entered the dojo. He was dressed in a emerald green Chinese Mandarin robe that reached his ankles, and a pair of violet sparring pants.
“What do you know? It’s none of your concern…”
“It concerns me because this is the world I live in. It’s my duty to stop vermin like you from taking over the world!”
“I’m not taking over the world, don’t you see, Zhao-Long? I’m saving it!”
“You’re not saving the world! You’re destroying it! You are committing mass-genocide and murder! I ought to personally put you down myself!”
Heihachi then stood up as he turned around to face the Chinese detective. “If you truly find error in my ways, then demonstrate with your fists. See if your weak ideals are enough for my iron fists.” Heihachi then assumed his fighting stance.
“Then so be it. I will stop you, even if it is the last thing I do!” Zhao-Long then initiates his fighting stance.
The two circled around each other, waiting for an opening. Finally, Heihachi striked first, as he threw his fist at his opponent’s chest, as Zhao-Long directed the fist down toward the ground. Heihachi smirked as he saw his opponent slam his elbow down on him. He quickly blocked the elbow and kicked his opponent in the face. Zhao-Long staggered blindly from the kick. This left Heihachi an opening. He dashed forward and sent in three sweep kicks, followed by a powerful uppercut [Spinning Demon to Uppercut] that sent the Chinese man flying as he soon landed on his head on the wooden floor.
Heihachi crosses his arms, very disappointed in his opponent. “Is that all you got? For China’s best detective, you sure are weak!”
Zhao-Long stood up, rubbing the back of his head. Heihachi’s reputation is well-deserved. Just as his master had warned him before he took the case, Heihachi wasn’t a push-over.
“Give up the fight. You’ll never win…”
Zhao-Long remained focused ignoring his opponent’s taunting. He sends in a quick palm, followed by a kick to his chest. He then spins to avoid Heihachi’s retaliating palm-strike. As he spun, he sends in a powerful palmed strike that knocked Heihachi off his feet. He then did some Tai-Chi breathing before charging in for a powerful uppercut that would send Heihachi flying. However, Heihachi caught his fist. Zhao-Long struggled as Heihachi thrusted his foot straight into his solar-plexus, knocking the wind out of him.
Zhao-Long laid there, as he tried to recover. Heihachi had him right where he wanted him. As Heihachi approached him, he slams his foot into his ribcage [Geta Stomp], but thankfully, Zhao-Long recovered just in time to avoid the hit. He stands up, staggering and panting. Heihachi is indeed one formidable foe. He knows he’s outmatched and out-classed, but there is always more than one way to skin a cat. He did the best he could to dodge and block and parry whatever Heihachi throws at him. Whenever he found an opening, he would go for the strike and quickly duck and evade. If anything, Zhao-Long’s fighting style is great at evasive maneuvers. He was going to personally send his youngest, Wulong, to train under Wang once he hits seven. He was also going to start teaching that boy about the world. But right now, he had to survive… he wanted to see his son finish high school, and go off into the police academy. He had to survive. Finally, he gets an opening, and unleashes a powerful punch to Heihachi’s gut, and then to his chin, launching him in the air. While Heihachi was in the air, Zhao-Long gathered energy, directing it to the palm of his hands, as he then sends in a super-charged double-palm strike at his opponent just before he hits the ground.
Heihachi gets up. “Not bad… But too bad, you still can’t defeat me.”
Heihachi gets up, dashing as he sends in another uppercut. Thankfully, Zhao-Long avoided the attack, and charged forward, using his momentum to knock Heihachi off his feet, sending him headfirst into the floor. Zhao-Long felt proud of himself, as he quickly turned around, to duck another incoming attack. Heihachi smirked as his opponent had done as he planned. Heihachi then slams his lightning-charged elbow into the top of his opponent’s head. Zhao-Long groaned in agony as he was sent to the ground. He also became dizzy and disoriented as a result. Heihachi grabbed him by the throat, and threw him across the room, sending Zhao-Long into a pillar, breaking it upon impact [Broken Toy].
Heihachi inched closer to his almost unconscious opponent.
“You think this is over, Heihachi?” Zhao-Long blurted out.
“Of course. You lost. Your weak Kung-Fu was of no match. Your weak ideals will never bring about change…”
“One day… justice will have your head. Your evil plans will never come into fruition. Even after I am dead, my sons will avenge me. They will come for you, and they will make sure you meet your demise…”
“Is that a threat?”
Zhao-Long coughed up blood. “No. It’s a promise.” He smiled.
Heihachi saw that right now would be a good opportunity to kill this man. But because this man was so weak… he didn’t deserve the honor of getting killed in battle as did his son and his father. But he couldn’t just let him walk free. He knows too much.
“Your father and I also had a disagreement. He didn’t think it was right that I had usurped my father in order to gain control of the company. He also didn’t like how I eliminated the Hachijos just as his family was eliminated. He was a weak fool who believed that justice and honor brings about peace, not power. He warned me that my deeds would be punished one day. He wasn’t much of a challenge in battle. His inferior Kung-Fu style was no match for my Iron Fist. He told me that this wasn’t over. He said that one day, you were going to avenge him, even after his death. Of course, I saw that as a threat as he had planned to return to China and tell Interpol about my plans and what I was going to do. Him, telling everyone this would ruin my plans, so I hired Johanna Williams to kill your father and his entire family. It would appear that she failed, as you and your brother were both impossible to track after your mother had killed herself out of desperation. And here you are, standing before me… alive and well. Too bad Johanna is dead, otherwise you would have been able to confront her, yourself.” Heihachi thought about not answering Lei's question, but the detective desired closure and wanted the truth. After all, this was what Heihachi needed to do.
So my mother’s sacrifice wasn’t in vain… everything work as my father had planned… My father… was a very intelligent man… More intelligent than I could possibly imagine…
“There is only one thing left for me to do: reveal the truth and be judged.” Heihachi crossed his arms.
“As they say, the truth always comes out, one way or another.”
“You hate me for killing your family, do you not?” Heihachi then began standing up.
“No… of course not. Hatred is such a strong wo_”
“Good work, Lei!”
It was Helena. How the Hell did she get here? The olive-skinned beauty took out all the soldiers and now had her gun pointed at Heihachi.
“My husband died because of you. Now, it's payback!”
Heihachi crossed his arms. “Weren’t you the one who killed your husband? In reality, it was your fault.”
“But you ordered me to kill him!”
“You didn’t have to kill him. You could have had one of your subordinates kill him. Besides, Dr. Andreas was a traitor.”
Lei couldn’t believe it. He knew Helena had beef with Heihachi. He knew Heihachi “killed” him by ordering his Tekken Force to execute him. What he didn’t know is that Helena was the one who killed her husband. And she blames Heihachi for it.
Helena didn’t hesitate to point her weapon at Heihachi. “It doesn’t matter! You’re going to die!”
“So be it.”
Before Helena could do anything, Lei quickly did a Kung-Fu move and disarmed the woman, tossing her gun to the side. He then tackles her to the ground, holding her down as Lei quickly turned his head.
“Heihachi, go on. Do what you need to do. I’ve got this.”
Heihachi nodded, surprised by Lei’s hospitality after telling Lei the truth that he did indeed hire someone to kill his father. Heihachi quickly left the estate to challenge Kazuya for the last time.
This bought him enough time as Helena flipped Lei over and held him in an arm bar and began snapping is arm in two. However, as Helena was doing this, Lei allowed his flexible body to move with the woman, causing him to roll over, with Helena no longer holding Lei in a lock as he quickly pulled his arm away.
“Helena, we don’t have to fight.”
“Of course we do! You helped Heihachi escape! He was the man who killed your father and my husband!”
“The path to revenge is a lonely one, Helena. Trust me Helena. I’ve been there. I wanted to kill Kazuya for killing my best friend. I wanted him to die. I was so focused on revenge that I neglected to care for my son and my wife. Our marriage fell apart because of this.”
“Heihachi still needs to be punished for his misdeeds and the wrong he’s done in the world!”
“Yes, I know. But this is not the way to do it. Who are we to judge who should or should not be killed? He who seeks revenge should remember to dig two graves.”
“I’m going after Heihachi! If you get in my way I will kill you!”
“So be it.” Lei said. “Face me!”
“Too bad. You were a good ally. Such a shame that you have to die.”
Lei exuded confidence. He knew he was going to defeat her. It wasn’t that Helena was a weak woman, but her mind isn’t focused. She killed her husband and is in complete denial. If your mind isn’t focused, you won’t win a fight, no matter how strong you are.
The two got into their stances. Helena observed Lei’s movements. She noted that he was moving around a lot. A lot more than most people when they fight. He also hand his hands curled up in fists. Lei observed Helena’s movements. The way she held her hands up and her bent knee. It looked like she practiced some kind of Muay Thai kickboxing like Bruce, but unlike her hands being held above her hand, they were open palmed. Lei was aware of her limb-breaking ability, as he learned earlier. Lei was going to have to be on his toes.
Helena was the first to attack, sending in a palmed attack aimed at his gut. Lei knew Helena wasn’t no stranger to fighting dirty. Lei parried the punch, only to get hit in the face, and then got his ankle hit by a kick to the heel. As Lei winced in agony, Helena quickly kneed him in the chest, and flips him over on his back. Pissed off opponents do tend to hit much harder than normal.
Lei quickly got up, rolling over as he avoided Helena’s tackle. She’s a grappler. Lei had to be very careful when it comes to planning his strikes.
Helena charges in for a flying kick. Very careless move. Lei quickly sidestepped to avoid her kick, and as her back was turned, Lei swept her up, as she was falling, Lei then sends in a pair of kicks, launching her in the air as she hit the ground [Windmill].
Helena gets up, charging at Lei once more. Lei saw an opening, and quickly evaded her and ducked. However, what he didn’t know was that Helena didn’t hesitate to grab his left arm, slamming him to the ground, face first, as Helena rested on Lei’s back, ready to snap his arm. Lei wasn’t sure how to get out of this one. Lei could have sworn he felt the ligaments rip and tear as Helena applied pressure. Lei then finally figured out how to get out of this hold. Lei relaxed his body, and swung his hips back, clocking Helena in the side of the head, forcing her to let go of Lei’s now sore arm. Lei then quickly gets up, as Helena does the same.
“Impossible! Nobody escapes that reverse arm hold!”
“Helena, I’ve been doing this a lot longer than you have.”
The two got back into fighting, trading blows, as Lei blocked, dodged, parried, and got drunk. Well, his fighting, rather. It wasn’t long before Helena was eventually on the defensive, as Lei moved so unpredictably. As a drunkard, he would slip and fall, and Helena would see that as Lei being clumsy, only to find out that LEI CAN ATTACK YOU WHILE HE IS ON THE GROUND! Lei moved and attacked like a monkey, so flexible and nimble, and agile, despite his age.
Helena wasn’t going to give up. As far as she knows Heihachi is probably very far away now. But that didn’t matter. Lei was going to pay for helping the enemy. Helena glanced at her gun. She could end this right now.
Helena ran over to grab her gun, and Lei saw this. He quickly grabbed her and threw her to the side.
“You really do intend to kill me. I’m hurt.”
“You should have thought about that before letting that evil monster get away!”
“Helena, I’m not your enemy.”
Lei stood his guard, watching and waiting for an opening. He finally found an opening and struck her down with an elbow to her face [Sonic Strike], followed by a snake strike to her torso. Helena got a little dizzy, but continued to fight back. As Lei got into Snake stance and was just about to do a few snake strikes to his opponent, Helena smiled. This was her chance. Lei threw out his right arm, Helena catches it, and swings Lei around, and using that momentum to finally break his arm.
With his right arm dislocated, Lei continued the fight. To Helena’s amazement, losing an arm did not slow Lei down. He still was able to fight, but he just couldn’t hit her with his arm. Perhaps he is left-handed.
As Helena runs forward, ready to finish Lei, Lei stood there. When Helena throws in a left and right punch, Lei weaves and dodges, performing a sideways 540 kick [Last kick in Comet Kick], which Helena ducked to avoid, and sent in a toe kick to Lei’s face. Lei takes the kick, but not before swinging his body around to kick Helena in the gut [Spinning Side Kick]. Helena was sent flying. It seemed that breaking his shoulder made him stronger. He must be in pain. But he didn’t appear that way.
Helena was already worn out from the fight. Lei was indeed the better fighter, but it didn’t have to end right there. Helena looked and saw that she landed next to her gun.
“Helena. We’re done. You’re tired. Let’s just stop. I’m going to keep beating you until you finally realize what revenge has turned you into.”
Helena grabbed her gun, hiding it. “You’re right. It’s over.”
Lei, expecting Helena to shoot her with the gun, was surprised when he saw her take out the clip, and drop her gun on the floor. She lets out a heavy exhale.
“I wanted to be the one two stop Heihachi. And he was right. I killed Cesar.” This mostly emotionless woman suddenly started crying as tears slid down from the corner of her eyes, down to her cheeks. “I didn’t want to. It just happened. I wasn’t trying to kill him, I didn’t know… and I foolishly blamed Heihachi for this.”
Lei tilted his head a little. “It’s over now. I’m going to need your help on this. Okay? Heihachi told me some things that I need to expose to the world, and I need you to help me out. Focus on this for now… grieve over your husband later. There is still time.”
