There were a pair of men following each other in a narrow alley-way. One man, the leader, is wearing a traditional black Chinese Kung-Fu garb with red dragon printings on them. The other man, his pursuer was dressed in a black leather jacket with a white undershirt, underneath, a pair of jeans, and black boots tucked in underneath the jeans. His, long, bouncy brunette locks bounced as he took several steps. His hazel eyes showed the determination on his face upon catching this man.
The man being pursued jumped on the side of a building, in order to get to the other side of the fence, while his pursuer did the same, catching up to him pretty quickly. The two dodged almost every obstacle, pushing people out of the way, jumping through food-stands. Finally, the guy grabs some spices and throws in the other guy's eyes, who blocked it with this forearms and finger-less gloved hands. The man in the lead managed to stun his pursuer, and was ready to make an exit, but he immediately runs into an old SUV that suddenly rolled out from the garage and gets knocked unconscious. The man behind him, finally catches up to him, and handcuffs the guy, as he then radios on his walki-talkie that was hidden in his coat pocket.
"Hey, Dispatch. This is Zakk. I have the suspect in custody."
The man who was inside the SUV steps out and smiles as he places both hands on his hips.
"Ahh yes... just like the good old-days huh?"
He was dressed entirely in a pastel-blue jumpsuit stained with some oil and grease. His long, silky, smooth ebony locks pulled back into a low ponytail.
"Dad...?"
"Go finish your job, first. We'll talk later. Okay."
Lei then moved the car back into the garage as Zakk was left to take care of the unconscious suspect.
~Later that day~
"So, what's going on with you, nowadays?" Zakk asks his father, as the two were now at his apartment, sipping on tea.
"The usual. Fixing cars. Watching movies. Teaching Li-Mei about the wonders of the world."
Zakk nodded. "I'm glad. She should be starting school pretty soon, though, right?"
Lei nodded. "Yeah. She's going to turn four pretty soon. And not too long after, she's going to be enrolling in primary school."
"I'm excited for her."
Lei then got up and walked into his room to go retrieve something, also while walking by Li-Mei's room, to watch her play with her dolls in the dollhouse. He smiled at her for a moment before finally returning to sit down at the table with Zakk. He set down on the table a tattered journal.
"Master Wang told me of this journal's existence. Your Bak Fu (father's older brother) kept it hidden. It was then I discovered, there is more to my father's murder than I had anticipated."
"What do you mean? Didn't the Triads execute him for interfering with their business?"
Lei shook his head. "It would appear that there is more to the story. My father was investigating an unsolved case. It involved the disappearance of Jinpachi Mishima, Kazumi Mishima, and Kazuya Mishima, who was later recovered and found. My father kept to himself, the dark secrets behind the Mishima family."
"I see..."
"I'm planning on going to Japan. Apparently, my father knew about the Devil Gene before anyone else discovered it."
"What?"
"Yes. This is why I wanted to discuss this with you. I'm travelling to Japan in a few days here. Li-Mei would appreciate going out and exploring the world. Xianlong would, too."
Lei finally finished his tea as Zakk read through the journal.
"Hold on! Wait! You mean to tell me, that Grandpa had a contingency plan for when he died!"
Lei nodded. "Yeah. That's why my brother kept this journal hidden. That's why my brother didn't want me to become a cop."
"This is really exciting!"
"It's interesting how my father chose me, instead of my older brother, to continue his legacy and avenge his death, which I already did..."
Lei did kill the man responsible for killing his father. Lei frowned at the thought as this was the first person that he killed while he was in the line of duty. Lei never did get used to the feeling of killing someone. The only thing that made him feel better about it is the fact that this man wasn't going to harm any more cops.
Zakk then handed the journal back.
"I think it's best that we get going."
Lei nodded.
The two then walked over to Li-Mei's room, and Zakk approached Li-Mei, kneeling so he could be eye-level with his sister.
'Li-Mei. I'm heading out. I'll be seeing you later. Can I have a hug?' Zakk asked his sister in Cantonese.
The little girl smiles and tightly squeezes Zakk, never letting him go.
'Be careful older brother!' She said to Zakk before finally letting go of their embrace. 'When you come back, we can play house!'
Zakk finally stood up, and grabbed his jacket as he made his way out of Lei's apartment, leaving Lei behind to tend to his sister.
His next destination was Tokyo, Japan. He had a few investigations of his own he had to attend to, as well.
