"Are you sure?" Zakk asks Shery.
"She says it's fine. It's fine." Steve said, defending Shery.
"Well, if you say so..." He took her word for it. She did seem to be happy.

"It's ok, Mr.Steve. Yes, Detective Lei. My background was from the place where men and women have their own responsibility parts. Same as two wings of a bird. If one of them didn't worked properly, the bird would be unable to fly. Same as our parts of our life. Men and women must stick together in order to 'fly' toward happiness. So, there's no need to forcing the law about what women must do or the men must do. No need to forcing those out, because everything will realise themselves about what must they do as our own gender's role."
While still smile so sweet Shery said
"I am a woman, and my happiness are having a kind and responsible husband and also has healthy and good children. And we took care our husband and child. Raising the children didn't the duty of mother only, but the duty of father as well. Same as family support. It didn't only the duty of the husband only, but also the wife as well at least after the children old enough to understand that their parents loves them and fights for them. That's how our life works. And because of that awareness, the world's civilization able to build even still have so many flaws and imperfect. Remember! We lived on 2020, and not on 1920! Good family have highest changes to produced great humans who able to created happiness for themselves and for the others!"

"That's how I've always felt." Steve said. "I'm not sexist or anything... but I mean... we all need each other and we all balance each other out."
"So... you actually have a choice? It's not like something imposed on you? I see... like my Mum. Pops basically made her quit school and take care of me while he was at work doing police work. Mum didn't like that and she divorced his arse." Zakk chuckled at that last comment. "She eventually remarried to a man, whom I didn't like. But... at least he didn't make her quit schooling just to look after a child. He stepped in and helped, too. He's nice... but... I don't know... But Pops wasn't that great either, abandoning me and my Mum."
Zakk was over it already, but it still made him angry. It was good that Lei eventually came around, and Zakk admired his dad. But still, he could have at least popped in and said "hi". It didn't help that Pai confided in Zakk that she was worried Lei was going to abandon herself and Li-Mei if things went south. Thankfully, he learned from his past mistake and didn't abandon the two.
"I'm sorry to hear that." Steve said. "But yes, a happy couple makes for a happy family. I grew up in a happy family, myself."
"It was mostly me and my Mom until Tobias came along... I honestly don't think that man likes Pops very much."
"I'd hate my wife's ex-husband, too if he did that same shit. Made her quit school. Made her stop chasing her dreams because she got pregnant."
"I know, I know, it's supposed to raise me, but... couldn't they have you know? Put me through daycare? Like is that even a thing in your country, Shery?"

"My country isn't perfect either. That's why educations became so crucial, including pre-marriage educations. It gave us self-awareness and not law-forcing brainwash. There's so many cases about broken family or failed-marriage in my country. Same as everywhere in the world. It because the couple aren't ready for stepped their life to next stage which called marriage. It made the family broke down because the person still think about 'my marriage means MY happiness' which means the person isn't ready. The person has been ready when already have 'my marriage means MY PARTNER's happiness' in the person's mind and heart. It also didn't last long. It must be evolved in their minds and hearts into 'my marriage means OUR CHILDREN's happiness' later after the child came to their life."
Shery took a deep breath. She lost her smiles and looked so sad.
"By your words before, I understand how hard for you when your parents wasn't completed in your young age, Detective Lei. The broken marriage victims were always the children. I understand so well how's the life wasn't completed. Because...I...I..."
Shery started to cried.
"I~I lost both of their loves sob when I was 5~..."

"Yeah, I think Pops got married to Mum the second he found out she was pregnant, and if I recall, Mum was only 20, and Pops was 21. So yes, they were both very young... younger than I." Zakk said. "Neither of my parents were ready for marriage. They just did it because they thought they loved each other and they though it would be best for me."
When Shery then mentioned that she lost her parents at five years of age, both Steve and Zakk felt bad for her. Zakk tried to imagine what it would have been like to lose both parents at such a young age. He knows his dad lost his parents at that age... Steve was adopted around that age.
"I'm sorry..." Steve said.
"It must be sad..." Zakk added.

"No...no...It's ok...I just really understand so well about your sadness and problems...please forgive me..."
Shery shed her tears and she hardly tried to returned her smiles although her eyes were still cried.
"Well...at least, I'm sorry before but,.... I knew that without you realised, you blamed yourself, Detective Lei. In the world, we often saw the words about 'a child born for completing the family'. When the parents separated, the children would started to blamed themself without they realised, because they felt they failed to made their family completed. When my parents gone, I was also blamed myself, like 'am I a bad girl?', or 'were they left because of me?', etc. Detective Lei, please don't blame yourself... it wasn't your fault. And please forgive your parents because you will never know when they truly left you..."

Shery had a point. Zakk did somewhat blame himself for his parents' separation. But all in all, he knew it wasn't his fault. His parents just weren't right for each other. He wondered if Li-Mei felt the same way, too. That poor girl. He was going to keep telling her that it isn't her fault her parents are no longer together.
"History sure does repeat itself, doesn't it?" Zakk said outloud, with nobody knowing the context of this statement.
"What do you mean?" Steve asked.
"Oh my sister. Exact same shit happened with her. Except her parents weren't married."
Steve raised an eyebrow. "They weren't? Why does she have your last name? Did he adopt her?"
Zakk shrugged. "I guess Pai assumed they were going to marry, so... we used our last name on her birth certificate?" Zakk honestly didn't know.

Paul smiled back at Hwoarang.
“Okay, cool! You like pizza? I’m kind of a pizza freak but would you prefer something else? That’s fine with me. Ramen? Hot dogs? I don’t know… I’ll let you decide.”
Hwoarang laughed as he approached Paul placing a friendly pat on his shoulder.
"Pizza sounds fine to me! I haven't had any in a while." He replied with a low chuckle.

"I am so sorry. I didn't mean to bumped in to your family issues. But my point was, no matter how old or young the couple was, no matter how rich or poor the couple was, no matter who or how the couple was, as long as they have their self awareness about the marriage and have both the selfless mind and heart beside their loved each others, the family-breaking problems were able to be suppressed down. That's why male and female have their own portions and responsibilities on their life. It's not about sexist nor something negative opinion like that. I just told you about what I knew, what I felt, and what I believed despised I was currently didn't entered marriage yet. But at least I have one question for myself: 'Will I allow my children suffers the same pain and sadness like me or even worst than me?'"

Zakk nods. "It's fine... And sorry about your parents. Do you have any leads as to where they went? There had to be a reason. Parents don't just go off and leave their kids behind? Pops left me with my mom because he felt that it would be safer that way. And he felt like Mum takes better care of me."
He lets out a heavy exhale.
Finally, Lei texted him back.
Sorry, just had an emergency... What's up?
Zakk's eyes widened in concern.
"Guys, he texted back!" Zakk said. "I'm going to ask him about his girlfriend."
"What happened? And when is Dr. Kristovitch going to be in Hong-Kong with you?"
Zakk waited as there was a long pause. Eventually Lei finally replied.
"She's with me right now. She's going to be staying here for a week. Did you want to talk to her? I don't think she's in the mood..."
"Yes! They're both in Hong-Kong! Perfect!"
"Yes! That's great!"
"Alright... Well, I'll can you later.
"If I don't answer, just call the house. Elise should be there."
Zakk did wonder what the emergency was. And why did Elise go to Hong-Kong with him? And she will be staying there for a week. Either way, he'll find out.

"Wow! Really? (Oh...thank you, God) That's very nice!"
Shery smiles has fully returned.
"But by the way, I must confess something to both of you...I...um..."
Shery paused a while and her face started to blushed.
"Actually...I am afraid of height and water... so please no need to asking why am I always covering my face and shivering when I aboard the airplane or sailing ship later...and I can't swim either..."

"So when should we leave?" Steve asked.
"Sometime soon. I say let's go ahead and get that interview done with. I mean it's not very often that she's in Hong-Kong."
When Shery confessed her fears, Zakk and Steve nodded and smiled nervously.
"It's okay... I understand. I almost drowned when I was little, but I eventually learned to swim. Look, it's fine. We won't take a boat.. and you won't sit next to the window."
"I have to sit in the aisle." Zakk stated.
"We'll just have her sit in the middle between two guys."
Zakk chuckled. "Betty's going to PISSED if she ever finds out about this."

"I would invite you to Mario's pizza but I think it's still under construction after the damage it got with the war some months ago. A tank destroyed it. But after having tasted those Mario's pizzas, I wanted to find those Charlie Brown pizzerias, like they mentionned in Kill Bill. Apparently Charlie Brown is known around here for its pizza franchises but I couldn't find any. There's probably none in Tokyo but I found Devil Craft pizzeria. Weird name, huh? They sell Chicago-style pizza and beer. You want to go there? Or you prefer something more simple? Like Domino's pizzeria? Wherever we go, we won't take beer already, well maybe you can take a drink if you wish but no more than one since not before the race. ...You're allowed to drink, right? You seem young but I guess if you can participate in the tournament, you're old enough. ...I guess..."
Paul then scratched his chin, remembering some contestants like Lili or Xiaoyu.
"They do accept quite young kids... In fact, they accept anything..."
Paul was now thinking about Kuma, Panda, those many robots, cyborgs, whatever... that demon he fought and that devil Kazuya... He then wondered: Was Jin like his father? Kazuya looked indeed like a devil since it had been shown all over the news, everybody saw it but Paul still wondered about Jin. He never dared ask Lee about it... Many people hated Jin but because he started a war, not because he would be a monster... and Lee didn't hate his nephew, so he may not tell... Paul also wondered if Hwoarang, Jin's rival, had any ideas... Maybe. It took Paul over twenty years to find out about Kazuya but now everybody knew and Jin probably inherited those traits from his father... Maybe. Maybe not. Paul realized he didn't know much about all those stories... Yet he told Hwoarang once more:
"So where do we go? For pizza only, we'll leave the beer aside for now."

Hwoarang couldn't help but chuckle quietly to himself as Paul went on about drinking. It was kind of touching seeing the Iron Fist veteran showing an almost fatherly concern about the fiery youth. Moreover he found the American quite interesting and enjoyed hearing him ramble for a bit - it was endearing in a way. His suggestions about pizza spots also had the Blood Talon intrigued and caused his hunger to rear its head in the form of a rather loud growl erupting from his stomach.
"Devil Craft pizza sounds dark and delicious," Hwoarang replied. "Maybe it will give me some sort of mysterious power yeah?"
The Blood Talon laughed knowing full well the joke he made was lame as he internally cringed at himself.
"But yeah the beers can wait until after! A celebration for whoever wins! Loser buys them a beer."
