After Lei interrogated the suspect, he didn't get confirmation that Kazuya was behind it. However, after the police revealed that the guns were from Japan, Lei was then able to confirm that it was indeed Kazuya Mishima who tried to get him killed. He was going to have the forensics find the serial number to the gun and find out who the guns were registered to, as well as the manufacturer. Lei never thought that Kazuya would be going after his head.
However, before Lei could do anything else, the Superintendent called Lei in his office. Lei bowed with respect before sitting down in the chair.
"I think it's time you took a break from handling the riots, and moved on to a much bigger assignment."
"With all due respect sir, I decline. I need to stay here in Hong-Kong and take care of my people." Lei replied.
"Hrmph. I knew you'd say that. I saw you investigating your attackers. You say it has to do with Kazuya Mishima, yes?"
Lei nods. "Of course."
"Don't you want to at least go to Japan to take care of him, yourself?" He said, trying to convince Lei to go to Japan.
"I don't need to go to Japan to eliminate him."
"Don't you want to go and be with your girlfriend? Who works in Japan?"
"No need to. She's staying in Hong-Kong with me." Lei crossed his arms.
The Superintendent knew that Lei was a very stubborn man. Convincing him to do anything or cooperate was nigh impossible. The only way for Lei to really do anything is if he suspended him, but even then, suspending Lei in order to get treatment for his PTSD didn't even work. However, he had do figure out how to convince Lei to go to Japan.
"Well, what if she decides not to stay in Hong-Kong. She has a career, too, ya' know."
"She needs to understand that it's way too dangerous to be in Japan. Besides that, my personal life is irrelevant."
"I somehow don't see her seeing it that way. She's going to leave you, ya' know. I'm just trying to look out for you. I think she would be so much happier if you worked in Japan with her. I'm sure you'd be happier, too. You and I both know, you really want it that way."
"Who will take care of the citizens? What about the civil unrest? I can't just leave my home and go to Japan just to put some demon behind bars!?" Lei flailed his arms in frustration. "Find someone else to do the job!"
"I can't. And I won't. You're the only man who is brave enough to confront Kazuya. He killed your partner. Remember that?"
Lei pointed at his superior. However he paused, as he had flashbacks of seeing his partner's charred corpse. And all the anger and sorrow he felt. The Superintendent was well aware that Lei hadn't gone to get his mental issues sorted out as he had requested Lei to do so many times in the past. However, he needed Lei in Japan, and unfortunately, emotional blackmail was the only way to get this man to cooperate.
"Of course..."
"Think of all the people and the lives he has ruined? Did your partner's wife immediately miscarry after hearing her husband died? And she later had heart problems... All you have to do is go to Japan..."
"I don't give a damn!" Lei shouted. "Fong's wife moved on and had a good life! That was 22 years ago! I'm not going to Japan and that's final!"
The Superintendent sighed. He really hated having to resort to this. "Wulong. Listen to me. You're going to Japan. And that's final. That's a direct order. Do you want me to write you up for insubordination again?"
Lei didn't have a perfect record. He's been written up and suspended numerous times. This was mainly why Lei hasn't gotten promoted from his current position. However, seeing that Lei honestly needed to do better at his job and follow direct orders, he eventually caved in. "Okay. What do you want me to do? I'm listening."
"I need you to go find dirt on Kazuya Mishima. I need you to go investigate G-Corporation. We need to help raise morale for Hong-Kong by giving the people someone else to turn their attention to."
"I see... so you're just going to turn a blind eye while the Communist party takes over Hong-Kong? Don't you know! The Communists wiped out my entire family!" Lei shouted. "Chairmain Mao executed everyone who survived the Rape of Nanking! He spared my brother and I only because we were young!"
"This isn't political. You and I both know that civil unrest leads to an unstable nation. We can worry about what the Mainland is going to do, and focus on bringing peace. You said you wanted to take care of Hong-Kong, well this is how you'll do it."
Lei nods following his superior's plan. "Okay. I'll go to G-Corp and make the people hate Kazuya. Got it."
The superintendent smiled. "Good. Now, also, once you get back from your mission, you are going to be put on a three-month leave."
"WHAT! WHY! LOOK I'M SORRY! I was just frustrated!"
"Wulong, you and I both know... something's not right. You're not right in the head. If it weren't for the fact that you're the only man on our team that can handle this mission, I would have sent you to go get some therapy. You're neglecting your family. You're spending more time here than you do at home... and I'm concerned for you. I think you need to take a break for three months."
"Why? I'm well! I'm fine. See?" Lei smiled. "I'm totally chill..."
"That's an order!" He said to Lei. "And you're going to be seeing a therapist!"
Lei scoffed. "I don't need a therapist. I'm a licensed psychiatrist."
"You can't treat yourself. I think it would be good for you and your family... I'd hate to see them get torn apart again."
"They won't. Trust me. I'm fine. I'm totally fine."
"If you say so... It's your mind." The Superintendent surrendered as he raised his hands up in the air. "I need you to take the rest of the day off and prepare for your flight to Japan."
"Alright."
Lei then got up, leaving the office, as well as the precinct. Lei then took notice that there was a large number of protesters sent to jail. Lei wondered what had happened. But he figured it was Raven.
Why are they making him do all the work! It's my job! He's in America! Why should he be in Hong-Kong! He needs to stay out! Lei then walked down the more peaceful streets, waiting by the bus stop. Lei groaned as he rubbed his temples.
"Great. Now Elise is going to fuss at me once I get home... Oh boy... I am not looking forward to seeing her..."
However, before Lei could do anything else, the Superintendent called Lei in his office. Lei bowed with respect before sitting down in the chair.
